Air Shows - EAA AirVenture Oshkosh

The Experimental Aircraft Association’s Fly-In Convention, now known as the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, was founded in 1953 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (US) (20091). It is an annual event which is held every summer on the last Monday in July for seven days, at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, US. The first EAA fly-in was at Wright-Curtiss (now Timmerman) Field and was attended by a few aircraft, (mostly homebuilt and modified aircraft) with only about 150 visitors (20091). The event grew over the years and by late 1969, the EAA board approved the move to the bigger site of Oshkosh, and so with the help of some volunteers they were able to build the infrastructure needed for the bigger event (20091).

EAA AirVenture is now one of the world’s premier aviation events, showcasing all the different types of aircraft featuring more than 10,000 airplanes, and appealing to a variety of people from top government officials to aviation enthusiasts (20091). There have been continual developments on site over the years to accommodate more aircraft, exhibitions and international visitors. Today, EAA AirVenture is an international gathering place for aviation enthusiasts and other visitors as it allows them the opportunity to look at and find out about new aircraft and innovations; attend 1,000 forums and workshops on all things to do with aviation; meet some of aviations top celebrities; and meet other people who share a similar interest in aircraft from all around the world (20091).
