Air Safety

What is Air Safety?

Air Safety is a term used which includes the theory, investigation and categorization of flight failures, and the prevention of such failures through regulation, education and training (20091).

What can effect air safety?

There are many different things that can effect air safety. Some of the main areas where air travel and hence air safety can be at risk include:

*Weather (Thunderstorms, LIDAR and Microbursts)
*Mechanical (e.g. engine failure, metal fatigue, stalling)
*Human Factors (e.g. controlled flight into terrain, terrorism, attack by hostile country)
*External Problems (e.g runway safety)
*Foreign Objects - e.g. bird strikes and other foreign object debris (FOD)
