Synopsis
Two decades ago, on 3 March, 1991, a United Airlines Flight 585, a Boeing 727-200 passenger plane was scheduled to fly from Stapleton International Airport (Now-Decommissioned) to Colorado Springs Municipal Airport in Colorado Springs, Colorado, United States of America, crashed on final approach phase nearby Widefield Park. The aircraft was less than 4 miles away from the airport’s Runway 35 threshold. The aircraft was severely damage upon impact and none of the passenger or crew survived. The Boeing 737 rolled to the Starboard side (Right) without warning and began to plunge downward towards the earth. The pilots tried to regain control of the aircraft, but were unsuccessful.
This aircraft accident investigation took almost 2 years; the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has studied the crew, the weather, the rudder and thousands of pieces of evidence.
The NTSB releases a report that the possible causes of the crashed that brought down Flight 585 was undetermined.
The mystery was solved after 10 years, when USAir Flight 427 crashed with similar problem with the aircraft and Eastwind Airlines Flight 517, encountering with the same problem,, but the pilots managed to regain control of the aircraft and landed safely.
