American Airlines Flight 96- behind the closed doors

Synopsis

On 12th June, 1972, American Airlines Flight 96, a McDonnell Douglas 10- 10, was flying from Los Angeles International Airport to new York LaGuardia Airport. The plane its lost control while it was flying over Windsor, the passenger compartment floor was partially collapsed due to the decompression of the cargo hold. The Captain was successfully landed the plane at Detroit Metroplitan Wayne Country Airport, everyone survived on board with no major injuries.

The reason of the cargo door got ripped off in the middle of the flight was because the door latching system failed to close completely. Most aircraft’s cargo doors are designed to open inwards to ensure the pressure can support the door from both exterior and interior environments (mid air & cabin). however, in this scenario, while the cargo door was forced to opened, there was too much pressure on the cargo floor forcing the cargo compartments to collapse and everything in the cabin which weren't attached also got blew away from the air. the cables at the rare end of the aircraft which connected to the cockpit were also broken into piece causing the captain lost control of the aircraft.
